The Inimitable Jeeves
A classic collection of stories featuring some of the funniest episodes in the life of Bertie Wooster, gentleman, and Jeeves, his gentleman's gentleman - in which Bertie's terrifying Aunt Agatha stalks the pages, seeking whom she may devour, while Bertie's friend Bingo Little falls in love with seven different girls in succession (including the bestselling romantic novelist Rosie M. Banks). And Bertie, with Jeeves's help, hopes to evade the clutches of the terrifying Honoria Glossop. At its heart is one of Wodehouse's most delicious stories, 'The Great Sermon Handicap'.
Carry On, Jeeves
These marvellous stories introduce us to Jeeves, whose first ever duty is to cure Bertie's raging hangover ('If you would drink this, sir... it is a little preparation of my own invention. It is the Worcester Sauce that gives it its colour. The raw egg makes it nutritious. The red pepper gives it its bite. Gentlemen have told me they have found it extremely invigorating after a late evening.')
And from that moment, one of the funniest, sharpest and most touching partnerships in English literature never looks back...
Very Good, Jeeves:
An outstanding collection of Jeeves stories, every one a winner, in which Jeeves endeavours to give satisfaction:
By saving a grumpy cabinet minister from being marooned and attacked by a swan - in the process saving Bertie Wooster from his impending doom...
By rescuing Bingo Little and Tuppy Glossop from the soup (twice each)...
By arranging rather too many performances of the song 'Sonny Boy' to a not very appreciative audience...
And by a variety of other sparkling stratagems that should reduce you to helpless laughter.
Chick lit must be taken on its own terms and this is a snappy contribution to the genre, delivering a nice version of the traditional message. It's taken them forever but in chick lit, finally, sisters are doing it for themselves.
—— ObserverCassie Cavanagh strays into Sophie Kinsella's shopoholic territory and meeting with a chicklit legend is more dangerous than the Harvey Nicks shoe shop on the first day of the sales. Thankfully, she pulls it off with wit and charm
—— Daily RecordSublime writing... Cooke is excellent on unspoken family tensions and her characters' psychological motivations always ring true with a density that recalls Virginia Woolf. Of the younger generation of Scottish writers being published now, Cooke is one of the best.
—— Scottish Review of BooksA wise, ambitious and involving work flowering in psychological insight, it leaves less nuanced epics in its shade

—— Library JournalThe Magicians is the most dazzling, erudite and thoughtful fantasy novel to date. You'll be bedazzled by the magic but also brought short by what it has to say about the world we live in
—— Gary Shteyngart , author of The Russian Debutante's Handbook and AbsurdistanThe Magicians is a spellbinding, fast-moving, dark fantasy book for grownups that feels like an instant classic. I read it in a niffin-blue blaze of page turning, enthralled by Grossman's verbal and imaginative wizardry, his complex characters and most of all, his superb, brilliant inquiry into the wondrous, dangerous world of magic
—— Kate Christensen , author of The Epicure's Lament and The Great ManThe Magicians is Harry Potter as it might have been written by John Crowley...This is one of the best fantasies I've read in ages
—— Elizabeth Hand , Fantasy & Science FictionThe author has taken all that is held dear in the fantasy genre, reverently (most of the time) tipping the hat to Rowling, Tolkien, Lewis, Le Guin and others, and shown it from a completely different and unique angle
—— Fantasy Book Review...a gripping fantasy thriller that will please all the older Harry Potter fans out there
—— Yours MagazineJonathan Littell veers between brilliance and bathos...
—— Sally Cousins , The TelegraphGrotesque, dismaying, chilling in its focus on the fine detail of barbarism, this epic of evil is also addictively readable
—— Boyd Tonkin , Independent on SundayCompelling... utterly engaging... for anyone whose interest in his subjects is great to enough to bear their unflinching portrayal The Kindly Ones is an essential novel
—— Chris Power , The TimesIt's an amazing picture of evil, wonderfully written (and very well translated from the original French by Charlotte Mandell), and left me feeling as though I had supped with the damned
