The Forgotten Lies

1935, Hollywood: In a studio-owned house on Lantana Drive, three beautiful young starlets wait anxiously for news.

Charlotte, Bee and Ivy are each desperate to win the role of a lifetime - the part that will see their name in lights. And with Warner Brothers' new motion picture, each thinks they've found it. Whoever lands the role will star opposite gorgeous leading man, Liam Malone. Friendships have been broken for so much less and these girls aren't friends ...

What's more, they also know the bright lights bring with them a terrible scrutiny. Every bad word, every stolen kiss, every careless promise risks being uncovered by the press. And at least one of the girls is concealing far more than someone her age ought to be - secrets that have left scars the cameras haven't yet picked up.

But surely it's only a matter of time before people remember? You can run away from the past, but in the glare of the spotlight you can't always hide.

Reviews

Enjoyable, well-paced and engaging

—— Lucille Houston , Times Literary Supplement

Like Amélie, Hunting and Gathering stops at nothing to make the reader feel good. Reading it reminded me of tucking into one of those beautifully constructed little cakes that you see in the windows of elegant French patisseries

—— Sunday Telegraph

A charming, romantic - and very French - novel

—— Rev'd Amber Pearson , Daily Mail

An elegant, ironic tale.. this will be a classic

—— Cosmopolitan

Gavalda's ability to reinvent the will-they-won't-they love story makes this a refreshing five-star read with real bite

—— Eve

Exhibits extraordinary originality

—— John Bayley , Independent

Saramago can transform banal sentiments into unexpected profundities

—— David McAllister , TLS

Earle seems to have little trouble expanding his range from a three-minute song to a 300-page narrative... And though the novel comes no closer to establishing the facts of Hank Williams's death, it certainly reveals a good deal of truth behind it

—— Alfred Hickling , Guardian

A witty, heartfelt story of hope, forgiveness and redemption

—— Booklist
