King Kong

"It was Beauty that killed the Beast"

King Kong is a giant gorilla, a massive monster of an ape who lives on a remote island. The mighty beast falls for a beautiful girl, Ann Darrow, and desperate to have her he finds himself lured into captivity. He is brought to civilisation and put on show, but when he sees Ann he breaks his heavy chains and begins to wreak havoc on the streets of New York . . .

The enthralling story of King Kong involves battles with dinosaurs, daring rescues and incredible escapes - endless thrills lead up to one of the most famous climaxes of all time!

Reviews

Wonderful

—— Sunday Telegraph

Browne creates an understanding for the creature's emotions. Without spectacular cinematic effects, the themes of the story are much more apparent

—— TES

A stunningly illustrated picture book that is just right for secondary school ages . . . With wit and verve in the artwork this is a winner

—— The School Librarian

A simply, but beautifully written story about a loving family . . . There is enough in the book for all teenagers to engage with, whether they have come into contact with mental illness or not

—— Write Away!

Suzuma handles the onset of manic depression with real skill and the music dimension with expertise

—— Niall MacMonagle , The Irish Times

An intricately plotted drama . . . Rai builds his story with consummate control . . . his empathetic portrayal of his multi-cultural cast of characters is underpinned by a sure grasp of street-language and mores

—— Books for Keeps

A cracking new book for older children . . . Like all her best work, this book is perfectly pitched to hook in even the most reluctant reader. The tone is fresh, funny and direct while strongly underpinned with genuine emotion

—— Daily Mail

'Thought-provoking ... strong second novel'

—— Bert Wright , Business Post

'A poignant, delicately composed novel that doesn't stint on the wreckage of violence.'

—— Irish Daily Mail

McKeon ... is a writer to watch. He conveys how people who cause harm can sometimes be victims, in their own way, and that takes skill. If you enjoy Colum Mcann's work, this novel is for you.'

—— Martina Devlin , Irish Independent

'... beautifully written, placed in those grey shadows between right and wrong and profound, terrible loss.'

—— Anne Cunningham , Sunday Independent

A beautifully crafted story about the legacy of trauma

—— Sarah Gilmartin , The Irish Times

A supreme storyteller

—— Robert Collins , The Sunday Times Ireland
