Author:Margaret Atwood
A clever and addictive thriller from the bestselling author of The Handmaid’s Tale and The Testaments
Rennie Wilford is a young journalist running from her life. When she takes an assignment to a Caribbean island she tumbles into a world where no one is quite what they seem, least of all ‘Yankee’ Paul.
Is Paul a drug smuggler? A CIA operative? Either way he’s trouble and his offer to Rennie of a no-hooks, no strings affair, will suddenly draw her into in a lethal web of corruption.
'As swift-moving as the best thriller, clipped and laconic, yet deeply and richly sensitive' Sunday Telegraph
One of the most richly entertaining novels I've read for years
—— GuardianA beautifully written, witty and often poignant account of a brave woman's attempt to come to terms with her situation and recover her spirits
—— Nina Bawden , Daily TelegraphWhat makes her book so considerable an achievement is the mature, informed accuracy of its view of life. What makes it so exhilarating is the profusion of tough wit and precise poetry that everywhere transforms its black bulletins from documentary into art
—— Peter Kemp , Times Literary SupplementThe only way to describe my response to Bodily Harm is to say that it knocked me out... She tosses off perfect scenes with a casualness that leaves you utterly inprepared for the way these stories seize you
—— New York TimesAtwood's vivid prose, tough wit and acute insight turn a scenario that would suit a beach-read thriller into a complex and compelling novel
—— Sunday TimesA master of detective fiction
—— Daily TelegraphIf you like your YA witch stories with a difference then I suggest picking up a copy The Circle... [I'm]excited for the next one.
—— Totally BookaliciousThe most interesting book to come out of Sweden this year, and it’s not another crime thriller!
—— fabruary8[I] enjoyed it so much I can thoroughly recommend this quite superb tale, and urge all to go out and order a copy today. I can’t wait for the second installment.
—— monstersfromhell.co.ukThis was definitely a brilliant book, that is well worth taking the time to invest in and read.
—— Serendipity ReviewsTense and full of dramatic twists and turns, I look forward to seeing what is next for the witches in part two which is called Fire
—— MeMyBooksandIWitches are the new black. This is the first in a best-selling Swedish trilogy and it's one you will not want to miss out on... An epic holiday read, it's got a fantastical, interwoven narrative that is just what you need to take you all the from the airport departure lounge to a shady spot beside the pool.
—— www.sugarscape.comThis book was one of those that I just couldn’t put down, and despite its size I found it to be a really quick read. The characters were all so different and yet still fit together in their own way, and I was truly shocked by some of the events. I loved the fact that the book wasn’t too teenage despite taking place in a high school, as the characters have genuine problems to overcome with each trying to find their own way to cope with their powers. A great read, I’m really looking forward to book two!
